Switched from Rico Royale 2.0 to Legere 2.5, and now low E and F buzzes. No saliva. Any clue? Thanks.\

Have you gone back to the Ricos just to see if it's the reeds? Sometimes I have probs with the Legeres but usually playing/warming up for a few minutes (like 5) helps the buzzing stop. When the Legeres are "cold" they're very different from when they're "warm."

Best,
Katrina

Also, Iike cane, Legere reeds are not all uniform. You still have to find the right one that works and plays for you mouthpiece. But when you do, they last a lot longer.

Send Guy Legere a note; the e-mail address is on each reed package. I know Guy personally and know that he's very interested in receiving feed-back from players using his reeds. He knows what his reeds will do and what problems others may have had, and can tell you if the problem stems from the reed itself or the way it's used.

I prefer the sound I can get from a Legere to that from cane.
However I have found that for best tone I have to go much
harder with Legere than with cane. Too soft and they will buzz.
Too hard a cane read will hiss, but Legere is much less prone
to this. It is harder, though, and requires more air and
firmer embouchure.

I suspect a lot of this is pretty individual, though. I have
another mouthpiece on which Legere doesn't seem to work
well at all. I use cane with that one.

I just purchased a Legere bari sax reed for my contra alto. I have found that I need to move it around a bit to get the best sound (esp. with not too much tip exposed), but when positioned correctly, it is the equal to the best cane reed I have found so far. Last weekend I was a bit overbooked and arrived at our community band concert as the tuning note was being given. The Legere was ready to play as soon as I was which means that the horn warms up more quickly also. I am definitely a fan, if not a full convert.

The buzzing can also be caused by loose parts on the clarinet or the pads. Also, and this is just my experience, Legere's are pretty finicky about position on the MP and they also tend to move while playing since they are so slick. I find that I need to tighten the lig a bit more with the Legere's than I do with cane to keep them in place.

I sent email to Legere but no response. Oh well.

Moving reed further back from the tip and moving ligature back fixed it. Much further back than I would have imagined. Thanks for your help.

Many people prefer them, but I have not had success with Legere. The sound produced seems to me a bit raucous, which could be described a "buzzy." Thanks for the clues on moving things around to otherwise unusual positions. Let's see how that might work.

Fibracells have done well for me. Nice tone, good response.

Regards,
John

I had a horrid wolf tone on long B with Legere reeds on my Festival.

I use cane, my son refused to use Legere even during his first year of playing.
