i have about 6 reeds that i rotate. I try to play each of them every day or so. However the only way i could tell which was which was by turning them over.
i now have a new system. i purchased an ink pencil that writes well on the top side of the reed. so i set up my own code PF 2.5, V 2, V56 2 1/2, M 2 1/2 and Z 3.
if you have the same problem maybe this will work fo you. peacee

I just use a little nail polish on the cheaper reed cases. Roman numerals are easier to paint on than english. Rotate reed position as needed. If you use several brands or strengths use different colors of cases (or nail polish I guess) to help.

-- or dots (or slashes, maybe?) on the butt end of the reed. (Excuse the vulgarity.)

What I've seen done, and I copy, is a piece of paper. Just stick the small rectangular paper under the butt end of the reed after you're done playing it. When you go to take another out later on, just take the next one, and repeat. It just moves on down the line.

If all your reeds are perfect, then there is no need to mark them. ...GBK

There is a story in Ben Armato's "Perfect-a-Reed" book about a clarinetist who marked his reeds with which opera they were perfect for: Tocsa, Lohengrin, etc.
