 Nathan Williams

I heard Mr. Williams in concert a couple of days ago. He was absolutely amazing. He had a difficult time since it was outdoors and extremely humid - during the Brahms f minor sonata he had to stop because his instrument had a problem. It was a small venue so I had a chance to talk to him afterwards. I thought he had moisture in his g#/c# key, but he said some adhesive from his mouthpiece patch ended up on his reed.
Anyway, when this happened he stopped, went backstage and fixed it and began the second movement again totally unflustered. I can't believe how much you can learn just by watching someone like this and listening very closely. And he was great to speak with as well and really willing to answer technical questions I had (reeds, fingerings he used etc.).

From what i understand he's a great teacher. He used to teach at East Carolina University now he's on the faculty at Interlochen. I myself have never heard him perform but i can believe he's really got his stuff together.

Nathan Williams is a great Clarinet player. If we are thinking of the same Nathan Williams, he grew up in my hometown of Weaverville, North Carolina. A few years ago he came to my local college's Clarinet Retreat and was the guest speaker. He was a great teacher and player. Occasionally, he stops by to see his mother (who still lives in Weaverville). I just wished he played more when he came!
