Can Someone suggest a stock mouthpiece that is close to a Vandoren 5RV lyre? i have tried several different types thruout the years not really knowing what im doing. just trying this n that. i always return to the vandoren but still dont feel like ive found 'the' one that works best for me. i think it will be close to the vandoren 5RV lyre, but i would like to try a different brand. any suggestions? i play on a selmer signature (didnt like the mouthpiece that came with it) and use vandoren V12 3's.
thanks - JL

I have asked myself exactly the same question.
A possible answer can be found by going to http://www.dawkes.co.uk/dawkes/index.html and clicking on the button marked "W-W mouthpieces". One of their "Windcraft-Weinberg" models is described as:
The ‘Studio’ M3
Standard tip rail, concave chamber and flatter lay produce a clear round tone. Ideal for both chamber music and studio work. (Similar to 5RV Lyre in reed strength.)
Whether it is similar to the 5RVL in other respects isn't clear. It's about the same price, though.
As it happens the shop that owns this site is about a mile from my office, but I haven't yet bought anything significant from them. They seem quite a well-respected outfit from what I can gather.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

I got my last mouthpiece from Robert Borbeck in Las Vegas. I talked to him over the telephone and told him what I needed it for and what he sent back to me was just perfect. I highly recommend him.
