Hi guys!
I'm writing an essay... It's basically free choice, but has to include/be on the topic of something related to things we've covered this year in the subject.
I've decided I'd like to do mine based around the 'line' between Art and Craft, or, where the technical ends and musical begins (but in a broader, cross-disciplinary context but ALSO relating specifically to my discipline, music).
I'd really appreciate any links to articles on this subject, from any perspective.
Also, what should I search for on, for example, google.com? I don't even know what keywords to use; I don't know where to begin! Help!

My short answer is that the "craft" is always only the vehicle for the "art". And, that the "art" is never subrogated by the "craft". There is no line between technique and music--the "music" simply never ends and should always be the and reslut of--and subordinate to--the technical means by which it is created. Even in a theme and variation presentation where one's technical skills are placed on display, "muscle beach" fashion, musical expression is still the ultimate concern. Without consideration for musical content and expression, there is no reason to learn to play any instrument, record any CD's or compose. It would be the same as writing a book without a plot or theme or like babbling incoherantly in the village square to no one. Musical expression should always be the reason for developing technical skill, buying expensive equipement and practicing hours without end. It's all about the music, not the means by which to produce it.
The "art" is the reason for the "craft", and there is no "line" or point at which it ends.

William - it is this point I wish to explore, but compare cross-disciplineary (spelling... sorry!) forms, from an historical, current, and maybe future view too.
Basically, what you wrote, I have to turn into 1000 words and refer to texts or other media and examples.
