Hi,
As you may or may not know I am working on a transcription of the Chaminade Flute Concertino for Clarinet.
I need some advice! When transposed the Clarinet part is in E Major for the most part, its horrendous to play!! If you were working on this what would you do?!? I thought either play it on the A clarinet or perhaps the whole part (incl. Piano) could be transposed down a major 2nd. This would leave the clarinet in D major for the most part.
What does everyone think?
Thanks,
Rob

Yeah thats what i was thinking. If i arrange it then transpose the whole thing including the piano down a major 2nd the clarinet will be in D Major.
What you think?

However, the woody quality of the A clarinet (playing in the key of F major) is also an interesting idea ...GBK

Don't you think the A would suit the Chaminade then GBK? Thats my only reservation!

6 of one/half dozen of another.
The brighter Bb instrument would certainly lend itself to the French quality of the work, but the slightly darker A clarinet might take some of the shrillness off the very high notes.
Then again, by using the A clarinet you are fingering notes 1/2 step higher...GBK

So would you transpose the whole work down or just transpose it for A clarinet then GBK?

Rob-
I'll respond to your e-mail soon, I promise....my ISP's e-mail system is not working. [ Remainder deleted. While in this case using the BBoard for a personal message is warranted (since your email isn't working), please keep it as short as possible. Mark C. ]

Rob...I'm partial to having the A clarinet play it (in the key of F). Some of the fingerings may work out better in that key ...GBK
