I would like to know your opionions on the traditional vandorens vs the V12? Why do you like one over the other? Anything else you would like to add would also be appreciated.
Thanks, Melissa.

I'm not sure about any of the technical differences, but someone recommended the V-12s when I was using the traditional ones. I've found that they play much more consistantly for me and I seem to get more good reeds out of a box. (Of course, I haven't gone through very many boxes yet, so I guess I can't be sure yet) So, I like the V-12s a lot more.

I have been using V12 for some time now(on a 5JB mouthpiece) I find the quality control ver good and I have to discard very few, in fact hardly any at all.

I find that the V12 (thicker at the blunt end, but sometimes thinner at the business end) seems attractive at first, but seem to change more in use and often don't last as long as the regular blue-box version.

The V12 is thicker at the heel by .35 mm.
The V12 is approximately .01 mm thicker in the tip.
There are differences in the scrape. The V12 scrape begins with a gentler curve, further back toward the heel. The Traditional reed scrape is slightly more forward (toward the tip) and with a more pronounced curve. The longer scrape of the V12 is to make the vibration zone of the reed larger.
The slope and taper of the two reeds are different as well, primarily due to the thicker blank of the V12.
Both reeds have the same overall length...GBK

I find a bit more resilience and ring to the sound of the traditional cut. I also find they last much better for me.

Personally, I find that the Blue Box tend to be stuffier and far less consistent (of course, when you find a good blue box reed, it's comparable to a v-12). I tend to agree that the v-12 are more consistent. I just like the way they play better. Some people swear by the v-12s, and some people hate them. I think it's mostly a personal choice.

i like the V12s but a lot of people say that they are inconsistant but once you find a size reed that works for you, they seem to be very consistant.
