 Baermann III

Are there any other publisher's besides JD Hite? I've looked and looked and only know about them selling a copy of it for somewhere around 6 dollars. I'm just curious, thanks.

Yes, Carl Fischer publishes the Baermann III. Take a look there or call a mail order sheet music place, most should have it.

Great scale book if there ever was one.

Recommended for any serious clarinetist...

You absolutely need this book, which is the "Clarinetist's Bible," containing exercises on every possible scale and interval.

Almost everyone has the Fischer edition, but the Hite edition is probably printed on better paper. You might also consider Abe Galper's "Upbeat Scales and Arpeggios," which has the same material with a different organization. See http://www.avrahm-galper.woodwind.org/.

Best regards.

I'm choosing this book due to popularity among all the clarinetists on this board. I remember someone saying (on the board) something to the effect of, "Put in on your stand and play through it every day and six months later you'll see the difference." Probably more witty than my paraphrase, but that was the message. Makes me wish I didn't procrastinate so much and I had gotten this book around . . . let's say around January (hehe) [wink].

PS - I'm going to pick up the Carl Fischer Edition of Weber's Concertino tomorrow! I'm excited/scared to look at it. Especially since I've never heard it played before and don't really know what to expect. (I'm a clarinet player that hasn't heard many clarinet pieces AT ALL! . . . I don't even know my own instrument [frown]). And don't worry GBK and Ken, I've got a few links saved from previous discussions about it including the ever so famous http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=14529&t=14450 which will undoubtedly be added onto the upcoming "Ken's Komments" spot (poke at Mark here!).

That was my quote you were alluding to. My exact quote at that time was:

"...Get a copy of Baermann III. Put it on your music stand and never remove it.

Make a habit of playing in it every day, forever.

After 6 months, you will see why..."

My advice is still the same ...GBK

i just started to work out of the Baermann III book and i can already see a difference in my playing.

also, can i ask what you're preparing the concertino for? i personally have to prepare it for an audition for district/regional band in PA and i was just wondering if you were doing the same.

Not for any district or anything competition. I'm out of highschool and since I never applied myself in high school to the clarinet, I'm behind where I COULD be. So I'm preparing it for what we call "juries". When I sign up for lessons in college, it's a pass/fail thing. I pick a piece and work on it. If I show that I've improved on it from the day I started working on it after the semester, I pass. If I've made no or very little improvement in my playing technique and ability, I fail. So I'm preparing it for my "juries". And for personal enjoyment, as well!

Sorry to keep dragging this post but I looked up the Baermann clarinet method on www.carlfischer.com to see how much their edition cost. Every one was listed as permanently out of print and unavailable. Does that mean I should just stop beating around the bush and get the one through JD Hite or is the website wrong in some way?

It's not permanently out of print... my store just got 8 copies of it in a few days ago (I work part time at a sheetmusic store in Boston). Call Luyben Music and Order it from them... (816) 753-7111. They'll gladly send it to you.

Hi,
What is the difference (if there is one) between the Complete Method for Clarinet #3 ( BAERMANN/arr_LANGENUS ) and the (Bettoney - Baermann) Method for Clarinet, Part 3 published by Carl Fischer copyrighted by Cundy- Bettoney in 1938?

Thanks
Mark

I like Klose, but I think the Baermann scale exercises are better because they extend more into the altissimo register.

TAKE ALL YOUR SCALES UP TO HIGH DOUBLE "c".
