Yes, I have just moved to Taiwan. The state of reeds and anything related to the clarinet is quite sad here. I have gone to many music stores, including a few that were recommended by teachers, etc. All they have are a few moldy (well, maybe not moldy) ol' boxes of vandorens and almost no stores have any mouthpieces. only one store had one: a single B45 that hadn't been sold off yet. What am I to do? I guess my real question is: What exactly would be the best way for me to get clarinet products here? Mail order? What companies would you recommend for mail order? Anything else worth thinking about? Thanks for helping, because otherwise I'd be doomed to a couple boxes of vandorens and a b45, in my mind: clarinet hell.

Think of it as an opportunity not a disaster. The world is at your fingertips with the internet. I order many of my raw materials and supplies from markets around the world often at a discount compared with domestic prices - you must know what you want and have quality parameters set for items - returning items is often a hassle and expensive. Many on line dealers ship internationally including yours truly. You must do a little planning to combine your needs to save on shipping costs and these will be smaller, relatively speaking, if you make a larger order of goods that are not too heavy and order several months supplies at a time. You can get anything that you want 24/7 - just be sure to check on shipping and handling charges of dealers.

Having been stupid enough to buy a Taiwanese alto sax (Elkhart) a couple of years ago, I sympathise with you. However, the "sad state" you refer to could have something to do with the fact that most of the rubbish produced in that country is exported to the UK for trusting innocents like me to waste money on. Sorry to rant, but I've just discovered another mangled screw in a pillar.

Well, I'm not sure I really want to buy reeds and mouthpieces originating from Taiwan, even if they exist. Simply because I don't suppose quality would be as good as some of the established European/American companies that have decades of experience. I'm just looking for stores that import stuff from other countries so that I can continue to buy the good stuff easily and cheaply.
