Here's a MIDI of the song in B-flat. Tunes for Flute Technic lists the composer's name as Silcher.

I have often wondered at the remarkable similarity between this beautiful tune and :

The copy I have is called "The Loreley" paraphrased for Bb clarinet. I found it in a book copyright 1938. The only name is A. Brooke who probably did the paraphrasing.

If that was the simple Silcher tune, and it was paraphrased, there would be nothing left! So I presume it is another tune.

What an interesting story [thread], TKS to all of our knowledgable music "researchers" for very complete info re: a ?rare? German love? song [etc] liede?n?r. Friedrich Silcher [per Amazon], TKS, Clarence. I'm requesting our classical NPR FM station to look thru their CD collection for a clarinet rendition, may attempt to record what they find!
