Hi,
I am looking for an mp3 download for "The Loreley". I have it for clarinet but for the life of me can't remember how it goes. Anyone know?

Best Regards
Mark

Mark J - Should it be spelled "Lorel i ", a siren on Rhine rocks, luring "ship-wreckers" ?? Any relation to Wagner's Rhine Maidens?? Curious, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Could be the "Lorelei" in Schumann's Liederkreis?!?

Make that Lorelei, sorry. Similar sounding is the old Civil War [and Presley] song, Aura Lee, in our band's folders! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Here's a MIDI of the song in B-flat. Tunes for Flute Technic lists the composer's name as Silcher.

Mark, this BB doesn't allow MIDI files attached to posts. Email me and I'll send you the MIDI.

That's correct - I limit the file types (the BB doesn't care, I do). Images only.

This is one of the most beautiful works for the clarinet in existance - yes, it has a lot to do with the Rhinemaidens.

It looks like the name 'Loreley' is associated with the composer Silcher.

"Loreley" / "Lorelei" seems to be the name of several different songs.

The Silcher I know one can be heard at"

I have often wondered at the remarkable similarity between this beautiful tune and :

1. "Whispering Hope" http://ingeb.org/spiritua/whisperi.html

2. "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" From Cabaret. Tune at http://www.hamienet.com/midi6856

3. The chorus of "True Love" from the show "Red Hot & Cole", and possibly another by Cole Porter. Listen at http://members.cox.net/old-music2/cole-porter/

Gordon,
The copy I have is called "The Loreley" paraphrased for Bb clarinet. I found it in a book copyright 1938. The only name is A. Brooke who probably did the paraphrasing.

If that was the simple Silcher tune, and it was paraphrased, there would be nothing left! So I presume it is another tune.

There's also a Gershwin tune called "The Lorelei" . . . I can't find a MIDI of it, though.

What an interesting story [thread], TKS to all of our knowledgable music "researchers" for very complete info re: a ?rare? German love? song [etc] liede?n?r. Friedrich Silcher [per Amazon], TKS, Clarence. I'm requesting our classical NPR FM station to look thru their CD collection for a clarinet rendition, may attempt to record what they find! Will report! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
