How low is Eb LP clarinet of 1930s?

There is an eefer available on auction, Conn Eb low pitch. circa 1930s
Moi question: too low to use nowadays? too low to limbo under?
or will Goldilocks find it just right???

Doing the Limbo under this instrument, if supported by two standard Coca-Cola bottles, could be hazardous to your health. However, if instead your intent is to play it, with any good fortune at all it should tune well to A=440. The HP stuff was usually around A=455 (but not all of it).

Howzabout a Noblet, or Bundy Eefa?

Those are more modern designs, and maybe easier to play.

These lovely old vintage instruments produce problems with tuning and are often beginning to show serious wear (and tear, if they were good enough to play with the first few owners)...

SB is on track. The old HP eefers should tune well to A=440, *if* fortune smiles upon you. But buying an eefer without playing it in advance should be done only if 1) it is almost free, or 2) you have considerably more money than I have, or 3) you are overwhelmed by a very weak moment.

This is because the Eb Clarinet, being smaller, is just that more difficult to build with good intonation than is a Bb Clarinet. And some of those are pretty bad, you may have noticed..

I have a Conn Eb clarinet (vintage 1928) and a Noblet Eb clarinet (vintage 50s).

The Conn looks like hard rubber and is at best a beginner instrument. The keywork is not made for fast playing.

The Noblet is solid with good sound and good keywork.

Don't sell an old eefer short just because it's old --- my 1930's hard rubber M. Lacroix Eb clarinet plays very well, intonation is excellent and it has blended just fine with modern orchestras.

i agree with david s.on this one .i also have a old hard rubber conn eb and it plays very well. its better suited for women or men with small hands as the key work is very close together
