In the minds of many players, nothing at all will measure up to Buffet. But Couesnon made some very respectable Clarinets, and IMO they are often underpriced relative to their value.

But not ALL players JMc.
Some people wouldn't dream of using them.

I'm a fan of Couesnon clarinets (I currently have three of them) as well as their superb "Monopole Conservatoires" line of saxes (I have two of their altos and wish I had one of the tenors --- actually two of my clarinets are also Monopole Conservatoires models, the top of the Couesnon line). I'll be happy to discuss them more off-line if anyone's interested in more details. But of course I'm not a professional clarinetist nor do I play one on TV....

Interesting, Dave ! For a bit, I played an A Fontaine [student Cousenon?], seemed good then, likely only fair now?. Have a Cous. mp, very good! Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

Don,
I've also restored a couple of the A. Fontaine/Couesnon clarinets, and I thought they were the least desirable ("most student-like") of the various Couesnon models I've seen. Not bad, but nothing special either (the Monopoles I consider to be "something special" --- the latest one I've gotten, currently on the operating table. has an extra resonance tonehole for the lowE/clarion B like professional bass clarinets have, has the 7th ring, and a little roller on the right-hand Ab/Eb key).

Dave: I think we discussed before that the ones marked just "A. Fontaine" seem to be student-grade, but the ones marked both "A. Fontaine/Couesnon" are evidently pretty high-level intermediate instruments. Or has my memory blanked?
No argument that the "Monopole Conservatoire" Couesnon instruments were their best.

John

John, I'd go along with your assessment of the Fontaine/Couesnons as decent intermediate clarinets.
