Does anyone have any experience with the Music Minus One solos, year one and two,not necessarily contest material but perhaps more traditional and popular songs that would be familiar ? Thanks.

I first tried ordinary MMOs and found its low level quality. However, when I bought its Laureate series, It was a big finding. This series was developped uder the direction of Dr.Jerome Bunke at the early 1970 calling for wind and brass principals of U.S. major orchestras. It is classified beginning, intermediate, and advanced. First the demonstrator plays the tune and later you play with piano acconpaniment.

As to clarinet, demonstrators are late Harold Wright of Boston, Stanley Drucker of New York, and Jerome Bunke himself.

I strongly recommend this series to every serious clarinet players. Such a series takes big money and will not be possible for another long years.

You can see what musics each Larureate series includes at MMO's home page. http://www.minusone.com/

The Bunke works are especially interesting. But that wasn't the question, it was for easy pieces like the vol 1, and 2 works, not the advanced pieces. Would be much better if the Laureate series actually included a whole piece (multiple movements), not just a movement here and there of pieces.

Music Minus one is a series of recordings of pieces minus the solo parts which enables players to play them with accompaniment. I would strongly suggest David Blumberg's Mytempo, since he customizes the recording to suit your needs.

Buzz:
Try FH Weiner Inc. in Long Island, at 1-800-622-CORK. They'll send you a free catalog, or you can logon to www.weinermusic.com.

They carry Music Minus One, and have classics, jazz standards, etc. for clarinet, sax, flutes, oboe, bassoon, as well as classical pieces.

I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for there, judging from the catalog.

Thanks Chris. I started my Company because I wasn't happy with the recordings that were out there of Accompaniments. Sure the Wright, Drucker stuff is great, but they are very limited, and the tempos are often kinda strange (too slow, or fast). Then there is the pitch issue of the former LP's, and tapes being out of tune in the newly issued (reissued that is) CD's. I started doing this as I kept getting requests to record my midi works (I was head Pianist for the Laura's Midi site, a now defunct site (shut down by Harry Fox agency), but in it's prime, it was the best on the Internet).

As long as the piece is not under current copyright (pre 1922) I either have done it, or can do it. Just ask.

Trying not to sound like an ad. I'll stop now.

 Smart Music

I have a wonderful computer program called SmartMusic. I got it at Interlochen for free, and love it! it contains pieces within an instrument's repertoire and has a catalogue of thousands of other pieces. The program is an accompaniment program. If your computer has a microphone on it, you can actually have the computer play with you and listen to you. It also has a tuner, a loop series in which a player can loop a place in the music that is giving them problems, and numerous other features! it does everything!

SmartMusic is free, but the accompaniments are not (it's something like a razor - they almost give you the razor and a couple of blades, but know you'll be back for more blades :^)

Visit www.codamusic.com for more info.

RE: Smart Music - not thousands

Smart Music has about 40 Clarinet pieces of quality. the catalog speaks of thousands, but 90% are for vocal. If it works on your computer, great, but if not, you're out of luck (very sound card specific). At $25-35 a pop, it is pricey (after shipping).
