 Sibelius Symphonies
Author: rbell96

Just got back from spain and whilst there managed to pick up the Sibelius complete symphonies. It is the Vienna Phil with Maazel playing them.

Haven't had chance to listen to them (apart from no.2 on the plane) but I would be interested to know peoples opinions.

Thanks,
Rob

This is certainly a great cycle, and the No. 1 is particuarly nice. try playing the scherzo and you will go bonkers in the practice room!

Heard an intervew with Maazel last night re a live NewYork Sym. concert. He was doing Sib.'s Second. He is, of course, an acknowledged Sib. expert.
Said the second set of all Sib symps. he recorded with, I believe, Pittsburg Sym. was better than his first for Decca but I don't remember what orch. did the first set. Sib. 7th is my personal fave. of his symphs.
