Hey all...
I was struggling with an enormous amount of pain in my right arm from a combination of clarinet and rock climbing during high school. (No longer climbing :P) To make a long story short, I haven't played in about 3+ years and wanted to get back into music. Tried again but the pain came back... Decided surgery was out of the question so searched out other options. Finally bit the bullet and settled on the Ton Kooiman Maestro thumbrest-- I gotta say wow. For something that costs more than most student clarinets, for me 1000% worth the cost.
Having this thing mounted on my instrument was quite possibly the scariest thing I have ever watched... the repair tech thought I should leave her alone and go get a stiff drink (not a chance drilling holes in an instrument I treat like my (future) child!)
After adjusting this up (took about 40 min) I played for a solid hour with absolutely no pain, keywork is quicker as I was able to put my hand in a more relaxed position.
Would highly recommend this to any players suffering from wrist pain (carpal tunnel or ulnar nerve syndrome--the funny bone.) If anybody has any questions about this gizmo, give me a shout.
Nick

Alessandro Carbonare, Principal at Orchestre national de France is using the pro model too and is definitely delighted with it. Just for info.
Stéphane.
After you've heard a work by Mozart, the silence that follows, this is still by Mozart.
