Anyone come across clarinets made by G. H. Huller?
I've got an Oehler system Bb dated 1936 and wonder if it's worth having it restored. I've only heard of them as a maker of bassoons.
Thanks.

In my opinion, any Oehler, especially one that's apparently a standard pitch instrument, is worth restoring.

Huller clarinets are around but I believe the company stopped making them a number of years ago, ie around 20. I am an Oehler player but have never tried an Huller. I have however played and repaired a number of bassoons. I have worked on a top of the line professional Huller and found it to be reasonable only and not of the quality expected in the price range from Germany and produced by others such as Mollenaur, Adler etc.. The student model bassoons are total crap. Soft keywork especially on the long joint, uneven scale, thin tone. The bocals supplied with these models are also very ordinary and the cases have that extraordinary aroma of animal glue.
