(This is not intended as an endorsement of IMS. Hope this hasn't been pointed out before; I didn't find it in the archives)
I ran across this article on Lisa Argiris in Musical Merchandise Review. The bio part is good enough, but the most interesting part is the "Sidebar" section at the bottom of the article. Looks like some major manufacturer really lost a lot of points with smaller retailers.

That was interesting- the sidebar section. The whole article was pretty informative to me, when I got over how boring this journalist's writing style got at times [definetly a candidate for me to practice my speed reading on]. I think Lisa has done amazing things with IMS making it as successful as it is now, but I think like the large manufacurers she has lost her touch in some cases [from the thread everyone used to express their various probelsm with her and her company a little while ago] in her effort to expand, and I guess she is on a much smaller scale doing the same thing they have been doing which she complained about in the article.

Yes, I'm drawing a "blanc" on who that fire sale manufacturer could be.
But, no, the article is dated November 2002 and the Leblanc fire was earlier this year, and they didn't start their Opus/Concerto closeout until after that.@

Keep in mind that this article appeared in a mag. meant for dealers, not playahs.

She is a fantastic clarinetist though. I wonder where she would be playing now if she had chosen a orchestral path instead of business.

BobD enquired: "And can you imagine Toscanini as a used car dealer...."
No, but how about a baton salesman?
