Interesting post...hopefully it will bring back quite a few replies.

I have a question for you...when you play the Conn vs the E13, can you try to describe the difference between the sound? I've heard that the 424N is supposed to be a loud horn.

Your interpretation would be most interesting to know.

I know jbutler has one for sale. Perhaps he'll add a few words to this post.

Um.. the 424N does infact have a "fatter" sound than the E13 but the E13 is more consistent with the action and intonation in my opinion.

The right tool for the right job; I've never played on a 424N but I've heard they can be pretty raucous sounding. The Conn is a 15.00mm bore (or larger) compared to the E-13 14.60mm...merely by acoustical design the Conn smokes the Buffet. Generally, as far as the clarinet's musical role is concerned a bigger/fatter sound and better projection is desirable in a jazz combo, big band, trad/Dixie and/or Klezmer settings. However, go with the Buffet if intonation, blending and technical accuracy is amenable to the performing group or solo. v/r Ken
