I am thinking about trying some of these and was wondering what the differences are between the two. What does each claim to do? Thanks

I went through about thirty of each kind of barrel at IMS last year when I was picking out my Bb R-13. The the differences I found in the moenig and the chadash barrels.

The Chadash barrels tended to have a tone quality more to my liking. It's deep, dark and resonant.

The Moenig barrels had this awesome legato. somewhat of a legato than the chadash barrels. Going up and down through registers was a breeze.

They are both really nice but I found that I liked the Chadash better. It worked better for me. In either case its good to have a large selection to pick from if possible becuse I feel there are some consistency issues among both barrels.

Hope this helps a little,
James

and that means the difference is cyso?
as per wwbw.com
"The Chadash clarinet barrel is produced and *distributed by the Buffet Crampon company. The barrel made from hand selected unstained Dalbergia wood, is of the highest quality that Buffet has in their stocks in Paris. The Chadash barrel is a reverse tapered cone bore similar to the "Moaning" barrel but with a very slow progression of the taper. The boring process for each barrel is done with a single edged French-style reamer that involves two different passes with the borer followed by the polishing of the bore."

Is one supposedly darker than the other? Does one project more? etc...

I use a Chadash barrel on my LeBlanc Concerto's because it improves the projection of the A's clarion register and plays the same as the stock Bb barrel.

On my Buffet R13 A, I use a Moenig barrel as it improves the tuning in the clarion range of notes. The Moenig does not seem to work as well on my Bb, so I use the stock Buffet barrel.

I do not think that one can characterize either Moenig or Chadash as being "the best". It all comes down to which particular one works best for you.
