At a community band I play in, they mentioned that they'd been given a bari sax no-one had ever heard of (as a gift, the lucky gits...) by a German town band they have links with.

When they opened the coffin, I was forced to stand back, to avoid drool marks. It was a silvery Bel-Air (ish) Dolnet, in sparklingly perfect condition. An absolute work of art, and good to see such a rarity.

Many years ago I picked up a fairly battered 1928 Conn Chu Berry from a community band. After using it myself for many years it has undergone a complete replate and restoration and is still being used, alas not by me. Make the most of it.

If I ever get round to it, I'll send some pics to saxpics. (I probably won't put my own Dolnet tenor forward, it looks like it's been run over by a burning tank.)

Strangely, mine seemed to have been to / from Germany too. It had a Meyer mouthpiece and all the crap that accumulates in instrument cases was very teutonic.

The very thought of teutonic cork grease boggles the mind!
