 Teaching

Hi,

(Hope this isn't too off topic Mark, it applies to the Piano but can apply to aspects of clarinet pedagogy.)

I am teaching a boy piano and his sister really wants to learn. The only problem I can see is she is 4. I don't think it is too young since she seems to have a good ear and has already started picking out tunes (twinkle twinkle etc) by ear.

How do I go about teaching her?

Rob

You might want to do some reading on the Suzuki Method; they start children off very young on a multitude of instuments, including piano, and are pretty successful.

there are also preschool piano methods such as the Music for Little Mozarts series and the Bastien Invitation to music. They spend more time on prereading and keyboard geography. At that age parental involvement is essential--they're not really able to just go home and practice. The Suzuki teachers also get the parents very involved. Good luck!
