 speaker "break-in"

I find the notion of "breaking in" new speakers very interesting----should it be a similar process to breaking in my new Buffet? Will the sound of my new speakers (B&W 600 series) improve with time? I notice one driver is made of Kevlar (bullet proof vests are made of this also)--I inadvertently touched the Kevlar while taking the speakers out of the box---I assume this shouldn't be a problem----Thanks.

Won't be a problem unless you put your thumb through the driver. Speakers do "play in" over time, so yes, over the next couple months you'll start to hear some improvement. There are even break-in CDs which play broadband noise to get things going. You wire the speakers out of phase, put them nose to nose, and leave 'em cookin' for a while. Mostly useful if you are the impatient sort.

If you ARE the impatient sort and in a hurry to post more questions like this, just treat them like any new reed--soak them for three days in warm water.

LOL

And then leave them flat-side up to dry...
