Low C extensions for low Eb Bass Clarinets
Author: Paul Wusow
Date:   1999-02-15 06:38

Just to let people know... Tim Burdick (TSBurdick@aol.com) a wonderful repairman in Cleveland, OH, is making an extension for my Bass. He charges about $1,200. This is not a bad price, especially if you like your Bass clarinet! With this extension, you can use your clarinet either way... Low Eb or add the extension for all notes to low C. The extension is made out of grenadilla and the key work is silver plated.
Just to let you know... :)

Being a bass cl enthusiast myself, thanx for that info. In some of my patent searching I found U S 2,649,829 to H W Loney, assigned to C G Conn [1953 - well expired!] which describes several embodiments of extensions of the Eb bass to low D and/or C. It would be interesting to inquire about the similarities/differences among his extensions and the several low C's made by Buffet and Selmer.
