 Interior spaces of cases
Author: Sue

My Birthday is next month and I'm thinking about asking my husband for a new case. When I bought my Leblanc Dynamic 2 years ago it did come with a used hard shell case (not the original) and its been OK but the space for the upper clarinet section is alittle to short for it (although it does hold it in place adequately) and the fabric interior has seen better days. Has anyone had trouble with finding a case that fits? and is there a standard size or is it different for different clarinet makes/models?.

Thanks for any help,

Sue

I believe that key configuration varies between brands just enough to make some of the horns not fit some of the cases. It sounds like your hard shell case would be servicable with a new interior.

As always I have the answer which fits all questions... go to my web page to see how to put together a new interior which will protect your horn better than what you now have.

You can even leave that page as your computer desktop so your husband sees it every time he uses the computer. Or if you want to really test the level of his love for you keep showing him my other case page:

Not familiar with that horn but agree with above that some cases won't accomodate some horn sections correctly. Guess you have to try them on just like shoes to make sure you like the fit. You might give some thought to a double.........just in case

My wife got me a Pro-Tec double case for Christmas. They make a single case as well. With the Pro-Tec, you put your horn(s) in the slots, close the case, and the next time you open it the slots are fitted perfectly to your horn(s). The underlying foam only needs a little while to form-fit. It's a soft case, though, not hard shell. I'm happy with mine.
