I own a Selmer series 10S, serial B09xx, which is approximately the same vintage as the one you are asking about. It is a standard 6 ring/17 key design, with silver plated keys. From a design standpoint, it is my understanding that these instruments were attempts by Selmer to address their major competitor, i.e. Buffet and their polycylindrical design.
In my humble opinion these are fine instruments and are every bit the the equal of the Buffet R13. I'm sure all of the Buffet owners will now tell me the error of my ways....
I quite agree with David Pino, author of The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing, who is of the opinion that of all the factors that go into playing the clarinet, the clarinet itself is last on the list of important items (assuming that it is in good operating condition). The player, embouchure, reed and mouthpiece are all more important.

I am an owner of Selmer 10SII and Buffet Festival.
The difference of the price is about $2000 in Japan, but the difference of the quality of those instruments is not so huge, sometimes I feel Selmer is better in high tone and reliability.
Drew, I quite agree with you.
In Japan, Selmer 10S and Buffet R-13 are in the similar price range, between $2500 and $3000 at stores. I bought 10SII while I had Festival, not R-13. Buffet's clarinets are surely popular in Japan. R-13s are widely used by Junior High students aged 12 years old. School teachers recommend to use the same brands to their students. That' why igrorant young people (actually their parents) will buy Bugffet's clarinets without any hesitation. People should try other manufacturer's instruments and decide what to buy by themselves. Yesterday, I tried Selmer Signature. It has wonderful tone and key mechanism. 10S is made by those who make such a nice instrument.

I owned 10S,10G,RC,RC-Prestige,and now have a 10SII*.I love Selmer 10SII* better than much more expensive RC-Prestige.And it has a stronger registance than Buffets. Its tone is more centered than Buffets(how vacant they sounds!).
10S was designed with a help of an American clarinettist, I remember although I forgtot his name.(10G was designed with a help of Gigliotti.)
Unlike Buffet's standard bore size 0.574",10S and 10SII has a more smaller bore,o.563", which may give more darker tones.
