 "I'm In Love" [grin]Again!

Just became the proud second owner of a Clark Fobes San Francisco Bossa Nova Bass Clarinet mpc. thanks to a lucky bid on e-bay. It even seems to play extremely well with Legere's and Bari non-reed reeds. Minor problem getting a ligature to "stick" on it. Any other Fobes users have comments?

I had the same problem after purchasing a new mouthpiece. After awhile it was fine. It appears that the ligature needs to conform to the shape of the new mouthpiece, and that process takes a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, tighten the bottom part of the ligature quite a bit while leaving the top one a little looser than normal so that it doesn't cause the reed to just slide out.

Congratulations on your purchase! It's so nice to find you have good equipment after spending your hard-earned money.

Sometimes it helps to lightly sand the inside of the ligature (assuming it is metal). It helps to give it some grab.

Bob A ...To give the ligature a bit more grip around the outside of the mouthpiece, place 4 small, double thickness squares of masking tape on the inside of the ligature bands (the ones that go around the mouthpiece).

I always find that this method solves the problem, especially when using a Bonade inverted ligature, or Harrison on my Vandoren crystal mouthpiece...GBK
