Hello,
Does anyone know of any pieces for trumpet and clarinet with or without piano? Preferably good ones!
Cheers,
Tom

No! The two don't mix. Cornet and Clarinet maybe. Any Bb duets will work. You just have to play the clarinet across the break and live with it. Work out any octave shifts and you should be right. Get the trumpet player toplay the cornet. The tone blend is more interesting.

Tom -

Mozart tossed off a dozen duets for two horns one afternoon. They've been transcribed for every possible combination, and the ones with a relatively low second part work well with clarinet and trumpet.

They're not difficult, but great fun. I've played a couple of them with my trumpet-playing nephew.

Best regards.

Tom,

John LaPorta has written some wonderful duets for clarinet and trumpet. Somewhere I have John's address and email but I can't seem to find them at this moment. If you do an internet search on John LaPorta you sould eventually find a web site that has his address. He lives in Sarasota, FL. John is a first-rate composer and clarinetist. He would often play these duets with Louis Mucci when both of them taught at Berklee. Louis is a superb trumpet player. He's known for his work with Claude Thornhill and Gil Evans.

Hi! I actually played a clarinet-Trumpet Duet! Me(clarinet) and my friend Kim(trumpet) were joking about playing a duet. And our Direct said that it would be hard to find music and that even if we did find some music we wouldn't balance. We actually did come across a book called Duets for all. We bought a clarinet book and a trumpet book, and we played a song that was in both books. We actually got a 1 at Solo and Ensemble, and we actually got compliments about how good it was because we balanced so well!

Hi Tom,

My son's just started learning the trumpet. We simply take duets from some of my clarinet books and I play my part an octave higher.
Try it, it's great fun!

Steve
