Is there a way of removing the lead parts from a Wav. or MP3 file to only have the accompaniment.

Though it can often be done to midi files depending on how the file was sequenced. You need a midi editor, I've done it with Cakewalk.

Couln't you reformat the MP3 into a Midi file, then transport it into Finale or one of those programs, and hope that they are on separate tracks, then just deleat the solo line and keep the accompaniment ?

Nope. Doesn't work that way - totally different formats. An MP3 is a recording, MIDI is basically protocol telling a synthesizer what sounds to turn on and off and how loud that should be.
