I just purchased thru e-bay, a Buffet Evette for my daughter. I can tell from the serial number D/B18005 that it is from approx 1935 but I cannot find the model anywhere. I, like many others, have fallen under the band director's spell of buy only Buffet. I would like to know if this would be an appropriate clarinet for her. She is in high school and will be going to college to continue music. Her instructor has indicated that she is very talented and will benefit from a good clarinet. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you.
Amy

Hi, Amy. A Buffet Crampon (1962) has been an intragal part of my life since 1962 as a brand new horn. It has endured remarkably well and is a life-long companion. I have never had an urge to explore other brands.
The Evette is fine as an intermediate instrument. However, if your daughter is going to be a music major or very active in the music department, I would certainly recommend another level up by the time she enters college. A lot of factors go into this reasoning, technical and psycological reasons. A new Buffet should be checked out completely for accurate intonation and mech-
anical touch by a knowledgable person. A used "older" horn would also be a reasonable alternative.
I wish your daughter the best in her educational career. And all best wishes to you, Amy. You are truly a "look to the future" mom!
