Selmer clarinet, half A, half B flat
Author: moe

Hello everyone. On ebay there is a Selmer professional clarinet that the seller says is newly overhauled but whose top joint and barrel are A and bottom joint and bell are B flat. Serial numbers are K3247 and K3276. I've bid on the clarinet hoping to finally own a pro clarinet for cheap. What would this combination of A and B flat sound like? Would it be totally erratic? Thanks in advance.

No pro would think of using this clarinet. Notes voiced from the top joint would match A pitch clarinets. Notes voiced from the lower joint would be progresively sharper each lower note played.

What are the lengths of each section?

Have you compared the output of the horn to a tuner?

How much are you out of pocket, so far?

I don't own the clarinet (as of this writing, the auction is about 3 hours from conclusion). It is out of Canada and the bidding is a $26.61 U.S. dollars at present. I am not winning the auction and will no longer bid on it. I guess it is a pretty strange piece at that. Thanks for you-all's advice.

Ask the seller if he has another one just like it but with Bb on top and A on the bottom. Maybe you can get a matched pair.

Moe,
Don't buy a patchwork clarinet. The thought may seem "cool" But the sound (which is what really matters) will be off and untune-able at best. I do not want to see your first "pro" clarinet become a nightmare.

Hey, cyso_clarinetist- Common sense has nothing to do with this! Most just starting or younger clarinetiists know very little about the different clarinets out there. You may be saying to yourself "well, I did" well that's great for you. I highly doubt you know all there is to know about the Clarinet-I think you really need to lighten up and don't be such a jerk. I've talked to you before on messenger services and have seen some of the reponses to other posts and you act very rude and arrogant.
