I know it's not really a question regarding clarinet but i'll shoot anyways. How do you transpose from bass cleff to Eb bari sax?

Very easily: just pretend that you are reading treble clef and add three sharps to the key signature (read Ab as F, Eb as C, Bb as G, F as D, etc.) Learing to deal with the accidentals will take some practice.

I've not done that for many years. This may seem a bit nuts at the outset, but it works.

First of all, add three sharps/subtract three flats so you will be in the right key. Then just play the music as written, *pretending you are reading from the treble clef*. It's easy, especially after you get a "feel" for what you are doing. You may have to move up or down an octave now and then.

Regards,
John

It is a "clarinet question", Johnny, because Eb Alto and EEb Contra Alto Clarinetists are frequently called upon to play bass clef parts (e.g. bassoon, string bass, tuba).

Johnny, Above, under Marigaux, asking a Bari sax question, I spoke of the bari sax/bass cl, Eb/Bb, transposition [treble clef only], as "pretending"!! Same fingerings for lower register, read differently, vice versa for clarion!! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

The same method works for playing trios for two oboes & bassoon on two clarinets and english horn. The clarinets read the oboe parts straight, and the English horn reads the bassoon part as described above.
