The Clarinet BBoard

Hi, everyone.
I just bought myself a new barrel for my Bb clarinet from wwbw. I ordered a Moenig barrel, which according to the picture on the web site should have "MOENIG" stamped in gold under the Buffet logo. The barrel which arrived does not have that marking. On the back of the barrel, it is stamped R13 A 640. My A clarinet barrel is also stamped with an A. To me, that would suggest that wwbw sent me a standard Buffet barrel for an A clarinet. The customer service representative at wwbw said that "sometimes Buffet does not stamp the Moenig designation on their barrels." I have heard that R13's are often shipped with Moenig barrels, so I might be able to believe that part of it, but what about the "A?" I've already tried out the barrel, and my sound is improved, but if I have the wrong barrel, my sound might be even better with the correct one. Can anyone advise me on whether I was sent the right barrel? Thanks!

If there is no maker I.D. on the barrel how do you know who made it?

It has the standard Buffet logo. Just not the additional "MOENIG" stamp I was expecting from the photo on the web site.

Steve,
Have it measured. The Moennig barrel bore should be .589 in. at the top, tappering down to .580 in. at the bottom for a Bb clarinet. For the A clarinet the measurements are .004 in. less.
Best Regards
Mark

Maybe you should consider whether the amount of money you paid is worth it for the improvement of your sound using this barrel?
If you feel that its not worth it, is it possible to return?
WWBW has a 45 day return policy for most items? If its covered maybe u can return it if you think its not worth it.
If you feel that you play better, then maybe it doesn;t really matter if it has the word moenig inscribed on it. =)

On the other hand, if you tried to sell it later (used), most buyers wouldn't accept it as anything but a 64mm Buffet barrel for an A clarinet. I personally wouldn't accept it unless it made the clarinet sing like it never has before - I'm talking huge improvement.

oh yah.. did you check the tuning of your clarinet with the new barrel?
Compare it to your old one.
If it doesn't tune correctly, it will be very difficult to play in a band or orchestra. Then you better look into whether it can be returned or exchanged for some other item.

WWBW has given me problems in the past, too. I had ordered a 66mm Bb Clark Fobes, and they sent me a 66mm A Clark Fobes. They said that the person who ordered it didn't specify which(being my dad who knows nothing about clarinets), but why assume that a 66mm barrel would be for an A clarinet?
Anyway, I also got a Moenig from them... it says Moenig on it. I would say send it back for the real one; don't take chances.
