No this isn't about Brahms or Bruch. Or Kegellstat trios. I'm interested if anyone knows of a similar B Board for violists where I could get some idea of the value of a viola, which is described below in the unlikely event that any fellow clarinettist also has a side in viola valuation:-
Viola labelled:
Bernard Millant Fils de Max
No Luthier D’Art Paris – 1978
Fait daus les ateliers
(above line is handwritten on the label)
Described as follows: “The two piece back displaying a medium irregular curl, the head and ribs of similar maple, the table of medium grained spruce opening out toward the flanks, the light orange-red varnish”
Measurements:
Length of back: 410mm
Upper-Bout: 196mm
C Bout: 131 mm
Lower Bout: 236 mm
Body stop 222mm

I am a clarinetist and violist - however, I would not give a valuation on a string instrument without seeing it and playing it. I suggest you head down to your nearest string repairer/maker and ask for his/her advice. Hope this helps, if you happen to live in a big city - contact your local professional orchestra and speak with their principal viola - he/she would definately know of a "good" string repairer/maker in the vicinity.

Mark - um, actually dusted off the cobwebs not that long ago - cost me a fortune restringing and rehairing the blighter ... current Musical commitments are a bit of a hinderance at present *hint hint*. p.s. don't forget to bring your music stand next tuesday's rehearsal.
