Does anyone use the salt box for reeds? If so, what have your experiences been?

A reed salt box is an air tight box (for example, a plastic refrig. box with lid) used to keep reeds moist at all times. The reeds are kept on a flat surface and the salt supposedly keeps the reeds from mildewing. The Vandoren reed case is a commerical atempt to duplicate this process. I used a salt box several years ago and found that the reeds mildewed anyway and the salt taste on the reeds became annoying, so gave it up. Try it...if it works for, you use it.

Well said, Doug, my thots exactly. I might suggest that salt, NaCl, moist or as a spray, is used to test [by destruction] the corrosion-resistance of metals, plated etc. I'd SURE NOT put a box in my horn's case!! don

Thanx, Mark, Don
