 case covers
Author: John Morton

I'd like to get a cover for my clarinet case. The case is what you get with a Buffet R13 (leather covered, made in Germany) and must therefore be a common size. I think it is reasonable to expect that a simple cover of cordura fabric not cost more than $50 or so. So far I have failed to turn up anything that seems right. Ideas?

thanks
John

I have a Buffet Pouchette double case and use an Olathe cover. It is fantastic! And, it is reasonably priced as well. There are particular types for Buffet cases, either Pouchette or Attache. All of them have a big pocket on the front with a flap closed by expandable clips and a zipper pocket on the back. Inside it has a wool-like material to insulate the horns and a nice, large adjustable shoulder strap. I've had mine for about 10 years and it still looks like new. Give it a try!

(P.S. I don't work for Olathe or any vendor that may carry it's products. Just a completely satisfied user here.)

Where do you get one of those leather case covers, all I've seen are vinyl type plastic.

I second the Olathe cover. I have a large Selmer attache case from the late 1970s (new old stock) and the double case cover fits fine. A little more than $50 like about a total of $70. As described earlier, a nice flapped pocket on one side, another pocket, and a very nice lining.

On eBay expect to pay about $50 if you can find one but BW and WW have them usually in stock which is where I got mine. You'll not be sorry!

I second the Altieri. Sold my Olathe to buy one and it's great. It doesnt collect pet hair like the Olathe does (if that bothers you).

I've had a custom-fitted Jean Cavallaro cover on my clarinet case (Buffet) since 1988. It's not leather on the outside (some strong synthetic, water-resistant material), but has the insulating fabric on the inside, with a deep pocket for my reed case and whatever else I can stuff in. It looks used, but has never given me a single problem. $150 very well spent.
