Hi,
How do you tell the difference between a Chadash "A" barrel and a Chadash "Bb" barrel. Are they marked? If so how?
Thanks
Mark

One is stamped with a captial B, the other, A.
Each is stamped with the mm length.
His Eb and C bbl's are simply stamped CHADASH, with no other markings .
(Guy does not offer these in different lengths)

I have 2 of these barrels. Neither has a B or an A on them. One has "066" and the other "067". Could it be that older ones are not marked? Also, is there really any difference other than length? How do these barrels differ in their construction from Moenig barrels?

hi
I don't know about the old vs. the new relative to markings. All mine are stamped with either B or A and the mm and are 3-4 yrs old. I know the ones sold through Greg Smith are also marked as such.
The difference between Chadash and Moening is in both tapers.
Personally, I've found the Moening to be just as free blowing but a tad bit darker sounding.
As with all bbl's and bells, there is usually a 'sweet' spot when turned.
The bbl is usually tested with an open G and the bell, with the low E, F#,F and the respective 12th's. I believe Ken Shaw once wrote a posing on the position of the bell. Do a search using the word "bell" and sift through all the listings, I know it's there.

I have two Eb barrels of his and instead of different lengths they have different bore dimentions. The wider barrel works fine with my D-clarinet.
