Hi, I'm brand new here and I just acquired a nice wood Bb clarinet. It's marked S.M.L, Paris, France and has a star with a "5" in it. Markings are on barrel, bell and body. Any information as to age and possible value would be appreciated. I intend to re-pad it, etc. and offer it for sale. Thanks, Steve

Don't know about the age, but the SML did good work while still in business (especially saxophones) . Their instruments, I think, are very good quality.

I also have an old SML 5-Star clarinet --- My guess is that it dates from the 30's or early 40's, but I can't confirm it. SML stands for Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire, a company best known for its superb Marigaux english horns and oboes, and for the King-Marigaux saxes which were imported into the States in the 70's.

I bought an SML clarinet awhile back and have not yet completed my restoration, but am close. I have an outstanding example of the King-Marigaux alto saxes, which is what inspired me to by the SML clarinet

I have an SML marked "strasser" I wondered if anybody has any more information about my clarinet. It is in excellent condition, was bought second hand 5 years ago and has a beautiful tone. Anybody who can give me more information about my instrument would be a star!
Thankyou
