 Jazz Clarinet /Bass Guitar
Author: Sue

I play clarinet in my local community band and I'm also learning the bass guitar so I can play rock n roll tunes along with my family. forgive me if this question seems lame, but for jazz tunes for the clarinet are there many parts for a bass guitar or is it for a double bass, and if not has anyone heard of it being transposed for bass guitar?.

I'm just curious, as you can tell I haven't played jazz , yet!.
Thanks for any help.

Sue

Double bass and bass guitar read the same music. You can also just read the lowest notes of a piano copy or the bass notes of chord symbols. You don't just play jazz, yet!, it is a lifestyle.

Thanks Mark for the info, and you are right Jazz is a lifestyle sorry if I offended you or anyone, I just play for my own pleasure.

Thanks again!,

I started listening to jazz and playing the clarinet about 3 1/2 months ago. It has changed my life like I never thought before. My entire life was about rock n roll. I have gone through stages of heavy metal, punk, country, alt country, heavy blues, etc., but nothing is like jazz. I will never see the world the same way again. My life has become jazz. It has inspired me to return to school and study what it is I have been ignoring all my life...music. Granted, school is school and music really comes from the heart, but it can't hurt to learn as much as you can about anything in this world.

As far as your first question...I don't really know, but I play bass guitar in addition to the guitar. I say, play what sounds good. You will know if it is right or not because you will feel it. Make stuff up. That's my favorite part of playing an instrument.

Have fun and good luck!

I played Bass guitar as well as clarinet too! Just cuz the jazz band didn't have any clarinet parts. My main problem with bass guitar was reading chord progressions, because I was never taught them. If you kno someone that plays bass, just ask them for a few lessons and that helps you get on track. I was too fast for the guitar teachers at the local music store, so I had an old friend give me some pointers on improv.
Good luck!
