Hi everyone,
I recently decided to get a case cover for my clarinet. I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on which type to choose. I searched throught the old messages here, but I never found anything about Cavallaro case covers. Are they any good? Has anyone here got one? I also know that lot's of people use the Altieri covers. I've looked on their websites and in WW&Bw, but still haven't seen a picture of the clarinet one. I hope that someone can help me make a decision. Thanks in advance!!! :+)

If what you are talking about is commonly referred to as a "gig bag", there are lots of brands and styles to choose from. Lots of different prices, too.
The main thing that a gig bag must do is protect the original case from scrapes and dings. If it makes it easy to carry a few drill books, a small note book, and perhaps a small collapsible music stand, that's great. If it can all be carried over the shoulder, that's fine, too.
The main thing to concern yourself with is the first priority. Protect the original case from the elements. If the specific brand and model you want does more things for you, that's fine, too.

I thought about getting an Altieri gigi bag over the summer for school, but i decided not to since the people never called me back about it. Instead I got a bag from Eddie Bauer that fit the diminsions of my case perfectly, they call it a flight bag. It protects my instrument from the elements and has ample storage space. It has a pocket for music and a pocket for accessories. Its like the bag was made or the purpos. plus I think I paid abnout 35 dollars for it. But whatever works for you!

Actually, the main priority of the case cover SHOULD be to insulate the clarinet inside the case. Secondary priority is to protect the case. And third is to have extra room for books and accessories.
There are some bags that ONLY protect the the main one that comes to mind id the DEG bag.

I use an Altieri "gig bag". It works great. I have a single B flat bag, but they are made for all types of clarinets...including double cases. It insulates as well as protects the clarinet. It is a very durable case, made of very strong material. There is an outside pocket that holds nearly all my music and accesories (though it gets quite heavy with all that). And it comes with backpack straps and a shoulder strap. I'm very happy with it and plan to get a double case bag as soon as I can. But it is a tad pricey. I paid about $88 for it, but I'd say it was worth it. Best of luck.
