I applied to a few camps for this summer, Eastern was one of them. How does Eastern compare to the top ensembles at Interlochen(WYSO) and Tanglewood(BUTI orchestra)?

hey Eric...i attended EMF a few summers ago. it was the first time i ever went away for the summer and i loved every minute of it. however, what grade are you in? since the age limit is 21, it can tend to be a lot of younger musicians. i know that they take only 8 clarinets-my year we had 4 college and 4 high school. i learned a lot and played some great stuff. the orchestras are good (there are 2 student orchestras of equal level and one professional orchestra tha the staff play in). the level will though be different every year. good luck and if you go...have fun!

I'm 17 and a junior in high school. I got into both Interlochen and EMF but I turned down Interlochen because of the supposed environment. I'll be going to EMF this summer. Do both orchestras play all the repertoire? Or does one play some and the other play the rest? They're playing Scheherazade this year and I would really like to play it.

"because of the supposed environment"... what does that mean? i was at interlochen for a summer as "band librarian" some years ago, and can report that in that particular year the WYSO was not that great- certainly not deserving of the somewhat inacurate designation "world youth symphony".... i imagine the Tanglewood option to be the best from what i've heard, but can you get in?
At all those 3 places you'll get good teaching, that's for sure.
