 BAM Double Cases
Author: theclarinetist

I need to buy a double case and I'm interested in the BAM cases. I was wondering if anyone has advise or opinions on whether the "trekking" or "X-Light" is better. Unfortunately, I can't find enough pictures or information on websites to get a good idea.

MY initial pick would be the "X-Light", because it's smaller, but if it's SO small that I can't fit my accessories in it (reed case, metronome, tuner, etc) then it's not worth it... Any advice would be great.

Also, while I'm asking... does anyone know where to get a recording of the Tomasi Concerto and/or the Rosza Sonatina? I've tried all the sources I can think of and so far I've found nothing

Donald,
You will find photos on the web site http://www.bamcases.com/
The trekking holds more whether single or double

I have a double trekking BAM case and I love it. My clarinets are very protected. It can hold 2 barrels per clarinet and only one mouthpiece. There is a slot inside to hold a few accessories. The outside front has a big pocket to store accessories. The back has a expandable pocket to hold music, and there is another velcro pocket that hides backpack straps.

I used to have the trekking case and it was OK but the fabric did come apart where the zipper attached. Also I got a lot of inquiries into "where I was going" from people who thought it was a suitcase. I had one guy admire it at a Taco Bell once who told me he had never seen a computer bag like that!
I say go for the Buffet Pochette case; it looks very cool and is smaller than the BAM case.

BTW, Larry Combs has a recording of the Rozsa on cassette, but I forget which label it's on.

Out of the bam cases the bam cases the Trekking is definately better as in terms of holding more stuff in the pockets and such. I used a light case for a while and didn't like it. The shape isn't really stable and it kind of roles around. So go for trekking.

But like someone else said, try to buffet pochette case with an altieri case cover. That works, it's what i use now :)

Crystal Records (http://www.crystalrecords.com/clarinet.html):
LARRY COMBS, CLARINET. GEORGE ROCHBERG: Trio for Clarinet, Horn, & Piano; GUNTHER SCHULLER: Romantic Sonata for Clarinet, Horn, & Piano; MIKLOS ROSZA: Sonatina for Clarinet Solo. Larry Combs, clarinet; Gail Williams, horn; Mary Ann Covert, piano. Combs is principal clarinet & Williams is assoc. principal horn, Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

(is this the right thread?)

I still think folks can consider modifying an old (or new) case. I have previously posted suggestions on this theme.

Sorry about the above misposts... "preview" ended up sending instead of letting me edit my note! ... oops!

[ ctt489 - I've mentioned many, many times the policy of advertising on the BBoard, and it's explicitly stated in the Help/Rules sectionm which hopefully you read and understood. Please do not post advertising here again. Mark C.]

I have a Bam single x-light case I bought to travel to Europe with. I LOVE it! It's very very light, and if you're careful enough, nothing will get squashed. I don't carry very many extras with me (reeds, knives, etc.) so it's the perfect size for me.

I also have a Buffet Pochette Double which is currently the only case I have for my A clarinet. I do like it too when I need both horns, but that's more rare lately.

A la Terry, I'm working on rebuilding the case that came with my Selmer Full Boehm because the styrofoam that was supporting the clarinet ceased to do its job! I'm having a hard time ripping all the velvet out though...

I would like someday to get a BAM x-light double for the (incredibly uncommon) times I need both horns in Europe. I met a guy in Madison WI who has one and it looks really spiffy!

Katrina

p.s. I've got a recording of the Rosza on my Grad Recital tape if you're really desperate! LOL!!!!! ;^)

Actually I think it had to do with the "add attachment" button. I suspect that will take you out of preview mode.

Just out of curiousity... when you say "nothing will get squashed" I assume you mean in the outside, accessory pocket... Just wanted to make sure, I get a little nervous when the words clarinet and squash appear in the same post!! = )

Lol...

No, theclarinetist, the outside of the X-Light IS soft...

But the "memory foam" (I think it's called...) will protect your horn...

At least as long as no elephants step on it!

All of these posts have been really helpful. I was originally leaning more towards X-Light, but I think the Trekking case is probably more practical. Does anyone have the dimensions of the Trekking double case? I know someone joked about it being the size of a suitcase, but from the picture on www.bamcases.com, it doesn't look too big. Just wondering (I don't expect anyone to measure one of they have it, but if you know of a website that has a good physical descripition of it, I'd really appreciate it).
