I saw the above ligatures advertised; anyone have any comments/experiences with them? Thanks!

It's a copy/replica of the original Harrison ligature which was (for me) superb.

The originals were gold plated, these are not. These are a "retro" version (whatever that means).

I switch back and forth between using the original Harrison and an inverted Bonade. Both are excellent and are widely used by the professionals I play with.

Try to find an original Harrison if possible. They occasionally show up on auction sites and in the classifieds, etc... GBK

GBK, is there anything to be wary about with the Grand Concert version? I was thinking of ordering one, that being easier from Oz than taking a punt on a second-hand article.

I can only relate what my colleagues have told me, as I have not played the newer replica version of the original Harrison. Most musicians seem to feel that the sound of the original (plated in gold) was better/clearer/warmer, with more coloration. Again, I have not played the new replica, but have always been very pleased with the response and sound of the original Harrison.

One slight warning: some original Harrisons have been known to break/separate at the H connection. Although this has never happened to any of mine, it is something I have heard about. Whether the newer versions have solved that problem is yet to be determined...GBK

Thanks for that, GBK. I had a look at WW&BW site, and they describe the GC H ligature as either "silver lacquered" or "gold lacquered". I wonder if that is different from "plated"?

P.S.: Sorry, it says "silver or gold lacquered".

Gold plated - like the original Harrisons, used actual gold.

Gold lacquered - probably like the sprayed-on finish applied to brass instruments....GBK

I had a fiddle with one once, and didn't find it to be anything special. I thought it to be similar to the BG Tradition ligature.
