I am currently playing a piece called Excursions for aolo clarinet by a composer named Caravan. Apart from the date of composition (1974) I have no more information on this piece or the composer. Does anyone know anything about it?

He is a contemporary American composer. His compositions are mainly for saxophone groups although he composes for B-flat clarinet also(same key with Soprano saxophone).

You may want to check any good reference that deals specifically with American composers. I think one of them is titled the Encyclopedia of American Music; I'll find the exact reference. Check if a large public or university library has such references.

Ron Caravan has done alot of work in the field of conetmporary techniques. He has two books on multiphonics and other CT's. First book is "Preliminary Exercises & Etudes in Contemporary Techniques for Clarinet" and the second is "Polychromatic Diversions for Clarinet". Those would be good books to work on in preparation for his "Excursions for A clarinet" and "Five Duets for One Clarinetist". I haven't seen or heard the other two pieces for solo clarinet, nor his pieces for clarinet and piano.
