Can you use a Bb barrel & bell on an A clarinet (specifically, Buffet R-13's?). I'm just now (after 25 years) venturing into the world of the clarinet in A. Thanks! I read the board with interest. I have learned quite a bit.

Using a Bb bell on your A could make your clarion B naturals (third line on the staff) and low E's play sharp. The B would come closer to playing sharp than the low E as the E has a tendency to be flat anyway. There are a couple of other things that could happen as well, but not as noticable as the intonation issues.
As for barrels, there is another post going right now that discusses this in detail and I think you might find it interesting ("The Barrel Question"). Generally a the Bb plays A-440/442 with a 66mm barrel and the A with a 65mm.
Good luck with your A, it is a great instrument. I like my A better than my Bb! : )
Enjoy!

I like my Bb better than my A because it has leather pads.
Someday I'll get my A repaded with leather.
