Both tones use about the entire tube length, so, if they're stuffy, Dee's suggestion is a great place to start.

Check for loose pads, floppy keys, and, as ridiculous as it sounds, I've had students sound a little stuffy, and, in checking, found a pad-saver fuzzy stick still stuck in the horn.
