Hi,
I've been reading this forum for quite a while now and I've noticed that some of you play the oboe as well as the clarinet.
I was wondering if any of you oboe players could help me please ?
Can you tell me .....is the oboe a Bb instrument like the clarinet or not ?
I've got some oboe music and wondered if I could use it for the clarinet or do I need to transpose it ????
Not that I'd know how to do it of course if I needed to !!!
Thanks
Sue

The Oboe is in Concert pitch, like a flute.
Transposing would then be from C to Bb.

Of course if you just wanted to practice it and not perform it with anyone, go right ahead. No one will yell at you for being a different pitch . . .

Correct, in the key of C, as for piano, one note higher than our Bb clarinets. This transposition is the simplist , just play it one full tone higher and add 2 #s or subtract 2 bs from the key signature and all will be well. Welcome to a minor problem for the Bb members of the clar family. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

Everytime I get a new instrument i play it open and match it with a piano.
Then play a written C to see the difference and see what key on the piano sounds like. or you can use a tuner.
