Has anyone encountered problems fitting a Chadash 66mm barrel on a FestivalBb?
We have tried 6 new ones from IMS but all have the same problem, they do not go all the way down on the joint and leave a gap of about 1-2mm.
We tried a friends barrel and it fitted and sounded just fine...
The next step I guess is to contact Chadash?

My son has Chadash barrels on his Festivals and hasn't had that problem.
I'm sure Guy will help you out.

Mark:
was that because of the difference in the position
and tension of the ligature you guys apply to the reed?

I don't believe so. The difference was really remarkable, so my friend (Ichiro Suzuki) readjusted it a few times, each time with the same general result.

I recently also got Chadash barrels with my new mouthpiece. I have an R-13, and it was tight on my instrument. I am waiting to see if the barrel expands sometime soon. It can get very stuck at times when I am playing, and is very annoying when you want to make a slight adjustment while in rehearsal. I will give it through December, but if it doesn't show any signs of improvement I will have to visit a repare man and have it altered.

Larry,
The barrels are tight on your daughter's Festival because of the metal tenon caps. You'll have to hav them widened a little bit by a repairperson. This is simple to do and doesn't change the bore of the barrel at all, which with barrels is all that matters. Not all instruments have tenon caps and you can always take material off, but you can't put it back on. I had th same problem when I was trying barrels at IMC for my new horns. Very simple problem to fix.
