i've noticed that the bark on my gonzalez reeds are softer than my regular vandorens. it's a lot easier to make ligature marks on gonzalez than vandoren reeds. is the cane not aged enough?

havne't broken them in yet so i dont know how well they play

They are different and break in differently. Search previous posts...I think GBK is the expert on these, as is Doctor Henderson.

The current run of Gonzalez reeds which is being sold is made using cane from the Harvest of 1998. Those reeds are quickly running out, and some of the Harvest of 1999 is now finally reaching the market. No other reed that I am aware of is using cane aged 4-5 years before being sold.

Gonzalez reeds have very dense cane which needs at least 3-5 days of slow break in. After that, they only need very minimal adjustments. I find that their strength consistancy from reed to reed is superb.

I've never noticed the bark of any Gonzalez (or Vandoren) reed being damaged by my reverse Bonade ligature.

If your reeds are showing ligature marks, I would experiment with putting less torque on the screws when securing your ligature...GBK

But how does it play? Not to sound condescending or anything, but I would only worry about how it plays. Perhaps the ligature leaves marks, but if the sound produced is what you are looking for, then just accept the good with the bad.

Should one use the same strength in Zonda as in Gonzalez?

How does Gonzalez FOF and Rico Grand Concert Evolution Compair? Seems there's a little more wood on the G.C.E.

Are zonda reeds that much different? I didn't realize they were from the same cane. Does one have a thicker base than the other? Cause I prefer the reeds that have a thicker vamp. I've adjusted to the thicker reeds such as Gigliotti plus, V12, etc. I haven't heard much about teh Zonda. I've heard more about the Gonzalez.
