If it is 114 or C its about !.14 mm with a short facing./ around 20 to 21mm

My C* is one of the best mpc's I have (and I have some very big "name " ones). It is a mystery to me, considering what everyone says about them. It was thrown in the case when I got my set of Buffets in the early 80's. It had tiny nicks on the lay and showed machine striations on the lay as though it was a reject, or never really finished. Years later I decided to practice my refacing skills on it, and smoothed out the lay by carefully using several increasingly fine grades of emery polishing paper. I didn't know what I was really doing, but just followed the original curve on a piece of glass, smoothing out the nicks very gently. Amazingly, it turned out to produce the most powerful, resonant mouthpiece I have. It has the one line up and three lines down and so may be a Chedeville blank. The intonation is a little sharper than others I have, especially in the B and C's above the staff, but it is not a serious problem. It requires a little softer reed than others, (3 1/2 Gonzalez FOF). I probably opened it up a little more than it was originally.

A few points:
1) There is so much variability between mouthpieces even of the same brand, model and nominal facing, that no two will play alike. Therefore, it is statistically possible (and occurs in fact) that there are many lousy Kaspars out there, as well as some good stock plastic Buffets, and everything else in between.
2) In terms of the playability of clarinet mouthpieces, MATERIAL DOES NOT MATTER! Perfectly good mouthpieces can be made of cheap molded plastic (such as the recent stock Buffets) with some interior rework and refacing, just as mouthpieces made from the finest Zinner hard-rubber blanks will be awful if the facing is made poorly.

Some of you talk about models, like C, or C*, or 114. Can someone say where I could look up specs for different models? I've never even played the one that came with my recent horn (F3A and 125 it says on it). It would be worth playing on, just to see what I have. My horn is a Festival; I wonder if they put different models of mouthpieces with different models of clarinet? (I just found my original 1960 Evette Schaeffer mouthpiece; it is a C.)
