Good morning!
I am a dad with two daughters both of whom play clarinets. I am looking to upgrade their current instruments and a local woodwinds store is selling a "matched pair" of 1935 Selmers in excellent condition for $2000 total. I don't know much about instruments and was wondering if this sounded reasonable? Thanks!

If you are looking at a "matched" pair, one is probably an A Clarinet which would leave one of your daughters with a clarinet she wouldn't be able to use at her first band practice. Go for individual Bb instruments. Chuck

I would be very surprised if a couple of 1935 Selmers would be good for anything other than museum viewing. Suspect that poor tuning here will create insurmountable problems. Also, as Chuck mentioned, only one is a Bb instrument. With a little patience you should be able to purchase a couple of 10 year old Buffet, Yamama, or Leblanc top of the line clarinets for much less than $2000 total.

The term "matched pair" is one of the top 3 untruths of all times.
I would suspect that the only thing "matched" about them is that they are in the same case...GBK
